Hello 2015! What is Next?

OMG I miss wifi!! I’m so grateful for the stop in beautiful, wonderful Singapore! Yeah land and free wifi!! Woot! Being on the ship without internet for TWO WEEKS has been a tad difficult. I had SO many emails to catch up on, and Steve had to power watch about four missed hockey games. I really adore Singapore, and so this stopover is making me the happiest I’ve been in a few days. 🙂

Two weeks have passed since we embarked on the HAL (Holland America Cruise Line) ship, and we have two more weeks to go on the ship still. Since we got on board we’ve celebrated my birthday (that was a champagne infused shit-show LOL), and we’ve had Christmas, and rang in the New Year (hello yet another champagne infused shit-show! LOL) Cruising is interesting, and I’ve been observing a lot of things about life, people, attitudes, and trying to reflect on what that means for me as a person. But, I don’t want to get too deep into all of that just yet. Instead a recap….

We celebrated my birthday in Singapore, and it was amazing staying at the Fairmont. They were so kind and send up some cake and a lovely handwritten birthday card – it was so sweet!  Steve was in a tremendous amount of pain (from his back) still, but was such a trooper following me around to satisfy my every whim. The second birthday celebration on the ship was a hoot as well!

On Christmas day we stopped in Phuket, Thailand, for a few hours, and I was grateful again for some free wifi! That was the first port we’d been able to get on the internet, and that made it a great Christmas present. 🙂 In the evening we had a nice buffet dinner of turkey and stuffing, and then made it an early night. Christmas Eve had been the formal night at sea where we did the big dress up and eat in the dining room thing, so it was nice to chill the next day.

New Years Eve was another formal night. Even though we were at a port (I forget where), I stayed on the ship and got my hair done – I love being pampered! We went out for a nice dinner in the dining room where they handed out party hats, then we partied till the wee hours up in the crow’s nest bar. We’ve met some amazing and fun people, and it was a gift to be surrounded by new friends and my loving hubby as we counted down till midnight and said hello to 2015! There were no fireworks, but there was a ton of champagne, so that made it better somehow. LOL

I still have tons of stories that I’m trying to write offline so I can post them when get internet again. I also have photos to upload, but sadly I need to be heading back on the ship soon.

So quickly, what is next for us? We are leaving Singapore today and heading back to Thailand – Koh Samui to be exact. We were really hoping to visit with some of the new friends we made there, but I don’t think there will be enough time sadly. Getting off the ship at the various ports has not been easy, and I have a LOT to say about this HAL cruise. We’ll be doing a TripAdvisor review, and I hope we can save other people from some of the frustrations we’ve had. After that we head to near-ish to Bangkok, then onto Cambodia and Vietnam – far away from actual cities I’m afraid, but more on that later. When we finally arrive in Hong Kong, we decided to spend a few days there to see the sights, then we’re moving on to Bail – I’m so excited!

Have a great new year, and thank you so much for reading!
